At the top of our agenda this year is further main repair works to the wooden Pier structure. We plan to start in mid-February with the renewal of a number of wooden piles near to the landward end of the wooden structure. This obviously requires the removal of decking and beams to permit the old piles to be removed, then the new ones being driven into the seabed, before beams and the decking is replaced.
Similar work will then be carried out within the vicinity of the intermediate landing stage, followed by work at the Pierhead. It is planned that this work will be completed by the start of the season in April 2022, though there may be some tidying up to be done for a short time after. Of course, you must consider that all these plans do depend upon the weather being favourable to us.
Whilst the piling works are going on, the Pier wooden structure will be closed and there will be no access for the public. However, the 1859 Café & Bistro, the Interpretation Centre and Gift Shop will be open for visitors to come and enjoy some refreshments in delightful surroundings and browse our quality selection of attractive merchandise.
